Brayden’s Anaphylaxis Hospital Stay
This page is about helping to provide a payment for medical care for a sweet, loving, happy child. Brayden is now 18 months old and lives a peanut-free existence. This affects his family and those who interact with him. We have transitioned to the extra awareness of looking through food labels, limiting our expenses, and learning more through allergy support groups. We seek and appreciate all support, advice, and contributions.
In May of 2021, our infant son experienced something new. The experience however, was very unpleasant and nearly life-threatening. He had developed and experienced an allergy attack and anaphalactic shock. All just from trying a new food, peanut butter. Peanut allergies affect 2.5% of all children . We are not excited to join this new group, but are ready to face its challenges.
As a result of the anaphylaxis, we went to the emergency room where life-saving treatment was administered and we spent a worrisome overnight stay for observation to make sure Brayden would not have a recurring allergic attack. Upon receipt of insurance billing, it initially showed as covered and we felt relieved. However, the visit was rebilled to insurance under different codes and we became a blend of emotions. Anger, frustration, betrayal, and confusion, much of what facing the healthcare system has become.
We now understand that while there is much to do, we must start at step one: caring for our son Brayden. Due to recent life changes, our savings have dwindled and the late rebilling of his medical care comes as an unexpected and unplanned-for expense. Is there a way to learn from unexpected medical bills? Maybe. But we also understand that this happens to many and now we are again included in a group that we are not excited to join, but are ready to ask for contributions and help to cope with our new circumstances.
It truly does take our village of caring contributors and individuals to help our son and spread food allergy and sensitivity awareness. We are thankful for you to take the time to read this and contribute.
