Bread Baker's Bomb Shelters
In Northern Israel, there is a rural town called Klil, just six miles from the border of Lebanon. Amidst orchards of olives and up a bumpy dirt road lives our sourdough bread mentor, Erez Garini. His bread is worth crossing the country for! Arriving on "Bread Day" is a joyful event for the community and visitors alike. There are always housemade dips out and his family makes bone broth, hummus, and soups to nourish all who join.
Lately, however, the sweet hum of breaking bread together has been dramatically jolted by the booms of rockets being intercepted overhead and shrapnel falling. In a recent article, "Times of Israel" calls Klil a Hippie Hamlet, and as such, they have no mandatory civic support providing shelter from bombs. If you need protection, you build it yourself. And so this is Sky Root's heart aim, to build bomb shelters to protect the families of our bread-baking mentor.
Over many years Sky Roots has been enriched by Erez's Homestead Art Bread teachings and Erez and Leah hosting the many times we bring groups on field trips to Israel.
Raising $50,000 will allow us to complete construction, with permits, in this neighborhood with children and elderly, who are in particular need of bomb shelters.
Any donation towards this investment for the security of these families is genuinely appreciated!!
