Breast Cancer GoFundMe for Amy Pollard
Donation protected
My name is Casey Crane, and I am creating this GoFundMe page on behalf of my incredible sister Amy Pollard and her family. Amy has found herself in the unenviable position of losing one or both of her breasts to cancer and needs immediate help with meeting basic needs for herself and her family during the months she will spend recovering from surgery (or surgeries) over the next few months. My family and I, unfortunately, are not in a place to help them financially but are trying to be here and be emotionally supportive of her and her family during this time by helping out in other ways.
The Woman
Amy truly is one of the most amazing women I've had the privilege of knowing. She is a smart, funny, thoughtful, sweet, and is a gracious 34-year-old who has the most amazing heart. As a licensed practical nurse who works overnights and frequently mid-day shifts as well, Amy spends at least a part of each and every day taking care of people who are hurting, alone, and in need. For the past few months, she’d been experiencing feelings of pain in her right breast and wasn’t sure why. Realizing she didn’t have the money to invest in getting herself checked out, she kept pushing off the pain until it grew unbearable. Finally, she sought an answer in the form of an expensive mammogram in February 2019. That’s when her life radically changed.
The Caregiver Needs Care
With the diagnosis that resulted from her mammogram and subsequent biopsy, Amy found herself in a position of needing help and care: She was recently diagnosed with stage II invasive ductal carcinoma — an aggressive form of breast cancer that will definitely claim one (or possibly both) of her breasts depending on what the surgeon says. The malignant tumor is already 5 cm — meaning it is already 2 inches in size. As such, her surgeon said it is likely that she will lose her right breast or, possibly, both of them.
Even while struggling to come to grips with this overwhelming struggle, she continues to work as the main breadwinner to support her beautiful family until she will be no longer able to do so. At the end of March or beginning of April 2019, she will be going in for surgery because of her upcoming surgery and the months of recovery that lie ahead. Her husband, Keith, is also working to help pay the bills but cannot do it alone.
Amy and her family have been going through a really rough time the past several years — in addition to a car accident that left her husband unable to work and later getting laid off, their first son, Aiden, was born with level 3 autism. He is non-communicative and has special needs, requiring specialized care, therapy, and education that costs thousands of dollars a month. Amy and Keith also have a two-year-old daughter, Abbi, who was born with behavioral issues and requires therapy. The hope in creating this GoFundMe page is to help raise funds to support her and her family during her recovery so she can focus on healing and not worrying about whether her family will be okay, have a place to live, and that her children can receive the care they need.
The Costs
Unfortunately, Amy’s insurance will only cover some of the costs for her medical bills. The rest, she and her husband will have to pay out of pocket. This is money they simply do not have. In addition to the costs of her medical bills, they will need help paying rent. And, with Amy being out of work for at least several months, the family will be unable to pay the cost for their truck and many other bills. They are looking for help to carry them through the time Amy will be unable to work.
How You Can Help
Any donations toward supporting Amy and her family during this period of recovery will be greatly appreciated. The $15,000 goal would help to cover some of the costs of their rent, truck, kids' therapies, and Amy's medical costs while she is out of work during her recovery from her upcoming surgery. Any help would go a long way in helping her and her family during this dark period in their lives.
