Support Breckin VanHyning's Battle With Cancer
Donation protected
Please help support Kelly & Kim VanHyning through this devastating time:
On December 22, 2020, 6 year old Breckin was diagnosed with Grade IV Thalamic Glioblastoma. Just a few weeks earlier, he was a happy and healthy boy, running and playing with his sisters, Ashlyn and Brooklyn, and dog Cooper. Everything changed one day after he became ill and had trouble standing and walking. Thinking he may have the flu or another virus, his parents took him to the local emergency room. After performing several tests and scans, doctors noticed that the left side of his face was drooping and he was having trouble moving his left arm. Doctors performed an MRI and found a large mass in his head. Within the hour, Breckin was transported by ambulance to Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago where he immediately underwent surgery to drain fluids from his brain. Over the next week, doctors waited for swelling and inflammation to decrease before deciding it was safe to perform a biopsy. After 11 nights in the hospital, Breckin was finally released, and happily went home with a special police escort and a cheering crowd waiting for him in his front yard.
Unfortunately, the devastating news arrived only a few days after Breckin was home. He was diagnosed with Grade IV Glioblastoma, a very rare (for children) and aggressive form of brain cancer. To make matters worse, the location of the tumor on the thalamus makes it inoperable.
Breckin's treatment will begin immediately and consists of radiation treatments 5 days/week and daily chemotherapy in pill form. His parents will be driving nearly 2.5 hours, roundtrip, daily to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in downtown Chicago for his radiation treatments for 6 weeks. The funds raised here will help with daily gas and parking fees, as well as medical expenses they have begun accruing.
Thank you for your generosity and most importantly, please keep the prayers coming for this sweet boy and his family!
This fundraiser is created & managed by Breckin's aunts and uncles and all proceeds donated go straight to Breckin's parents, Kelly & Kim.
