Bree's Chiari Malformation Decompression Surgery

Donation protected
WHAT'S WRONG My mom Sabrina during the past months has discovered that she has been suffering her entire life from Chiari Malformation Type I. Chiari is a condition where part of the brain tissue extends into the spinal cord due to a misshapen skull. It is usually diagnosed invitro, but due to the screening technology that was available when my mother was born, she is now nearly 41 learning what her years of undiagnosed symptoms meant.  She had dealt with increased severity in her muscle loss, vision, hearing, and memory, along with losing the ability to swallow correctly and debilitating migraines. She has had many of these issues her entire life with no diagnosis, but the past few years her symptoms have increased to the point it has absolutely deteriorated her quality of living. She has lost a rapid amount of weight because the  Chiari has caused issues with her swallowing foods. When she's home alone, she's terrified she may choke and no one will be able to help her. A lot of the time she is very dizzy and has problems walking, and has even had instances where she's fallen due to this. Here's a great video to learn more about Chiari and how it affects my mother and other sufferers: https://youtu.be/iQHx29lm0xU  This surgery will involve taking a piece of her skull out in order to create space for the brain and to restore the flow of CSF or cerebrospinal fluid. It will help her swallowing, migraines, vision, and dizziness. She is set to have her surgery on November 5th, 2019 While these changes seem small, these symptoms have literally changed my mother's happiness and worsened her depression extremely. She has lost interest in doing her favorite things like gardening and cooking simply because she does not have the physical capabilities or the energy to do them. She balances all of these issues while also taking care of my siblings Ava, 9, and Liam, 5. GETTING TO KNOW HER My momma, Sabrina, is an amazing and resilient mother of 3 who never fails to make me laugh. She has been the best mom I could ever ask for, regardless of our highs and lows. My mom has been through some very tough situations but has always tried to be the best mother she could be no matter the cost. She truly is my inspiration for everything that I do. WHY WE'RE RAISING MONEY I've decided to make this GoFundMe because of the financial burden this surgery will be taking on our family. My stepdad works at War Horse Harley Davidson, a full-time job where he makes his living on sales. We will have 0 income during this time because he will have to take nearly 3 weeks off of work just to watch my mom. I have two younger siblings who also need to be taken care of. We have bills to pay and expenses that come with having a family. We simply need a nudge to help us through this really difficult time. I'm Ashton, Sabrina's oldest daughter. She doesn't know I made this campaign for her, but its the least I can do. I am a full-time student in the IB Program at LWHS, in my Senior year. Because of this, I cannot take a lot of time off of school to help my family. I get home at nearly 4 p.m. every day when I don't have any extracurriculars which are required of my program, but when I do it's nearly 5:30 p.m. My family needs this extra help, and I hope I can contribute in some way.
