Brenda Steve Carpenter Medical Travel Expenses

My name is Felicia Cooper and I have created this Go Fund me to help my mom and step dad with Medical and travel expenses.

My mom, Brenda Carpenter, contracted Shingles around February 16th. She has Lupus and rheumatoid arthritis along with a few other ailments. Her Shingles were the worse case that her doctor had ever seen. She went into the doctor to get some medicine and then hell broke loose in her body. The shingles were on her abdomen, chest, neck, head and left side of face in her eye. She went back to the doctor due to swelling in her eye and a fever. They told her it was a reaction to her being in the sunshine (she wasn’t supposed to be in the sun with a medicine she was on). The doctor gave her another medicine. It didn’t help and it only got worse.

On the night of Friday, March 3rd she was taken to the ER in Poteau, OK because she couldn’t breathe. She was taken by ambulance to St. Francis in Tulsa, Ok. She was put on a ventilator and transferred to St. John’s also in Tulsa due to staff shortages.

The doctors did find some abscesses in her throat, left eye socket, and chest that needed addressed. They put her on some high powered antibiotics and medication to help her.

Her fever was getting worse and they didn’t know what was wrong so they started doing tests to try to figure out what was wrong.

The doctors still don’t know 100% what was causing her fever besides the shingles. She has had many procedures including a spinal tap, CT scans, X-Rays, brain scans, EKGs, fluid drained from the pleural spaces between her lungs and chest cavity along with blood tests and other fluid tests. As you know it can be expensive and draining on a family to endure any ONE of these tests but she has had more than I can count in her ICU stay. She has been through so much Since March 3rd.

She is still in the ICU on a ventilator. She hasn’t woke up yet. She has a long road ahead of her. My stepdad has been with her since she went into the hospital but now he has to go back home so he can work. Their home is a little over 2 hours away from the hospital. This adds more expenses due to traveling and it adds more stress.

My Mom and Steve are always the first to help in any fundraiser for anybody who needs it. My mom volunteers when she can and has donated so many baskets and items to fundraisers. Heck while in the ICU, Steve was making calls to try to get a basket sent to the school for a fundraiser. She doesn’t like to ask for help and will probably kill me for creating this but Now is the time we give back to her and Steve.
