Help Brenda pay for her pacemaker

Brenda has worked hard to help animals all her life. As a young woman, she was the shelter supervisor for the only animal shelter in our county. Since then, she has worked tirelessly with the O'Malley Alley Cat Organization to rehome cats on our area and get them the medical care they need, including getting them spayed and neutered. I am Dr. Wendy Blount and Brenda has been my volunteer surgery prep tech at O'Malley PET (Preventing Euthanasia Together) since 2009. Week after week, she is there carefully preparing my patients for surgery, with love. She is really good at what she does. She does it because she wants to. It's in her blood.
Many years ago, Brenda was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy. After getting a pacemaker, she by some miracle improved drastically, and has done very well until her pacemaker stopped working some time ago. She has medical insurance, but out of pocket expense is still $20,000, and to date she has not replaced the pacemaker because she does not have resources to pay for it.
Brenda's heart has worsened, and it is very clear that if she does not do something soon, her heart will eventually stop. She is not well, and though we tell her we will be OK without her, she still comes to volunteer each surgery day. She gets winded, and needs to rest, but she will not stay home. Yesterday, one of our volunteers Steve switched days at work so he could come volunteer with her and watch over her and keep her safe. She made it through the day OK, with the help of Steve and another volunteer we call Taz. Though Brenda was not at all sure she needed them underfoot, the guys kept her from overexerting herself, allowed her to rest when she needed to, and provided her with an opportunity to serve while she waits for her cath procedure which is scheduled for Monday, August 10.
