Brenda’s Surgery Fundraiser

It is distressing to any family to find one of their members in need of medical aid, especially when it entails surgery on the heart. Many have been through different illnesses when young, like rheumatic fever, and never again have to deal with the complications from it. However, others find out years later that such a childhood illness has caused internal problems that did not show up until years, even decades, later.

This illness has decidedly shown up again and caused issues in the ventricles of my other half’s heart. Her doctor(s) at Guam Radiology said that the ventricles are not expanding enough to allow proper blood flow which results in less oxygen being provided throughout her body. This exacerbated the functions of her other organs thereby causing pain in her chest, fatigue, and can eventually result in more dire circumstances if not treated soon.

We have been provided off island approval by Medicaid / Medicare for Brenda to fly to California and have the surgery done at the Good Samaritan in Los Angeles. The tentative date is the first week of January 2023.

Brenda has had to resign her position at GDOE due to the pain she’s been having, which has grown exponentially worse since we were given the news. And of course we are also afraid of any complications that could arise. The one thing we have a little control over is how we can go about supporting each other through this.

It is for that reason alone that we are requesting any kind of donations toward airfare, lodging or whatever else expenses come about as both her and I are new to this type of thing. The thoughts of leaving our children here, albeit with family overseeing their well being, has brought out much anxiety which only makes things worse.

We ask for your prayers, by those of our family and friends who pray, and best wishes sent out to the universe to those who subscribe to a different belief. We understand the times are hard for everyone and understand not everyone can help and are thankful regardless.
