On July 19th Kevin, Brenna, and Robin Oaks were faced with an unimaginable reality. 15 year old Brenna was taken for an MRI for headaches and neck pain. The MRI revealed a tumor pressing on her cerebellum and extending to her brain stem. She was rushed to Nemours Children’s Hospital for emergency brain surgery to remove most of the tumor. Brenna had a second surgery on August 2nd to try to remove more of the tumor to secure a better treatment prognosis. Unfortunately, they were not able to remove all of the tumor. Brenna has been diagnosed with a brain cancer called Medulloblastoma. She will be facing aggressive radiation and chemotherapy in the coming weeks.
This sweet family has been at Nemours and the Ronald McDonald House since July 19. They haven’t been home since and have no idea when Brenna will be released from the hospital, but it may be another 3-4 weeks. Their family and friends are working to raise money to help with medical bills (Nemours is out-of-network for them), gas for traveling back and forth, and other daily expenses that are already stacking up. Robin will be taking a leave of absence from her job as a 2nd grade teacher to care for Brenna.
Please surround The Oaks Family with prayers, love, and support. If you can also help them financially, it would be much appreciated.
