Brenna's Recovery
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Lauren, a good friend of Brenna’s.
On the 23rd of March, Brenna underwent what was meant to be a simple abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) that would be the start of a new life without the excess belly skin she was left with after losing a whopping 40kg naturally!!
However, unfortunately, 8 days later, things took a turn for the worst. Brenna was thought to have an infection in her lower abdomen, was in hospital receiving antibiotics when she turned septic and became even more unwell. She was too unstable to be transferred to a hospital with plastic surgeons, so a plastic surgeon was brought to her. She was taken to theatre Thursday night, where they found things were much worse than they first thought.
Brenna was found to have an extremely rare (so rare there has only ever been ONE other case documented in the world in an abdominoplasty) called necrotising fasciitis (flesh-eating bug). As a result, she has been kept intubated (in a coma) and transferred between 2 other hospitals, with her final destination being the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne & 5 days on remains intubated.
Since arriving at The Alfred on Friday night, Brenna has received Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy twice a day (same as what divers with the bends receive) as the necrotising fascitis is slowed/stopped by oxygen. She also has had surgery every day to clear as much dead tissue & infection as possible.
As a result of this, Brenna will have a long recovery ahead of her, resulting in multiple months off work and loss of income.
As expenses don't stop, we would love to raise money to get her across to Tassie to her family when she is ready and cover all her living costs for the next few months until she is well enough to return to work & help her family be with her in Melbourne as long as needed without the financial pressure. But, in a time like this, we don't want her and her family to have to worry about money.
So we would love and appreciate any donation anyone is willing to donate please & if you can't donate, please share as every share helps.
Brenna has made so many people smile both in-person & through social media, so let's give her a reason to smile.
