Brent and Judy Noyce Medical Expenses

Donation protected
I’d like to take a few minutes to introduce our parents. This is Brent and Judy Noyce. They have been married for over 51 years. They’ve raised eight children, have 20 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Our Dad served in the US Army and our Mom is an excellent hairdresser and homemaker. Our parents have worked hard over the years providing for their family on a limited income. We grew up with enough love and encouragement to last forever.

About 17 years ago, our mom was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. We’ve seen this disease age her and take over her neurological functions. She’s been such a trooper all of these years. Even working until the age of 68 before retiring. The year 2020 has been a doozy. I think we can all agree that it was the year that none of us saw coming and it has changed everything about every aspect of our lives. We now wear face masks, stay at home unless we have to head out for groceries or the essential doctor’s appointment and no longer gather together in groups.

The year started out with many positive things to look forward to. It was the year we were planning a family trip to Disneyland, and a few other get togethers. In March, the pandemic hit and by May our father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. In June, our sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. In December, our Dad and Sister noticed small but concerning changes in our mother. She was starting to fall down several times a day and became very disoriented. About two weeks before Christmas, our Dad and Sister made the decision to take our Mom to the ER. They woke up and made our mom her favorite breakfast and were on their way. They later admitted her to the hospital and told us that she would be there for at least a week. They told us she had kidney failure and a UTI infection and were going to take things day to day. They were going to do everything they could to save her life. Miraculously, about 10 days later she was well enough to be transported to a rehabilitation center. The plan was to get our mom to be able to function on her own, by walking, dressing, and taking a shower independently. You know, those activities of daily living that most of us don’t think twice about.

Our mom has had a few setbacks while being in the rehabilitation center. This has prolonged her date of release. If Covid-19 wasn’t here, we would be able to visit her but with Covid-19, no visitors are allowed. The only communication we have with her is through video and phone calls. If our Mom’s tremors are too severe, she is unable to call or join our video calls. With all of this, once our Mom returns home, they are expecting the medical bills to come in. These are the medical expenses that their insurance doesn’t cover. We’ve learned over the years that once you retire, insurance only covers a portion of medical expenses and the remaining amount you are responsible for. Many seniors are in the same situation. We know the medical bills have been coming in steadily since May with our dad’s diagnosis but now with our mom’s medical expenses we are truly worried about how they will pay them and meet the basic necessities each month to survive. We understand this year has been difficult for everyone. There has been job loss, we’ve had friends and or family members die, and we’ve had to get accustomed to a new way of living. If you are able to contribute to this fund for our parents, we would truly appreciate it. Even the smallest of donations would make a world of difference. God bless you all!
