On Monday, July 31, Brent Smith - a genuine hero to all who knew him - died in an unexpected and tragic accident. Brent leaves behind his wife Eugenie, the love of his life; his sons, Dominic and Malikai, whom he adored beyond measure; an extended family including parents, siblings, in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, all of whom relied on him in myriad ways; and a huge community of friends both near and far. Everyone who knew Brent felt blessed to know him and is devastated by his sudden death. Brent’s beloved dog, Bijou, is also deeply forlorn.
Brent and Eugenie run the School Street Bistro, a popular restaurant in Rochester, VT - Brent cooked and liked to joke that Eugenie did everything else. He was just about the hardest working person on the planet, and there will be many financial challenges ahead for his family. We're starting this fund to help Eugenie and the boys find their way through this difficult and most heartbreaking time. All funds raised go directly to Eugenie and will help her to cover basic living expenses during the coming months when her livelihood and so much else is in question.
Our names are Babo Harrison & Bumble (John) Young, we live in Bethel VT. Brent, Eugenie and the boys are close personal friends. Brent helped us in more ways than we can count around our house and worked with Bumble in one of his businesses. Bumble has known Eugenie since she was young. We asked Eugenie for permission to do this and she was touched.
Brent had a huge heart. His generosity of time, spirit, and unflagging physical energy, had no bounds. He was rugged and handsome, funny and kind, unpretentious, loyal, and passionately real. In his too brief 50 years, he touched so many lives and we are so grateful that he touched ours. No gifts too small. All gifts deeply appreciated. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
