Brent Van Metre Cancer Treatments (B Strong)

Brent is very active in Brooks Minor Hockey, from being a coach and assistant coach to being the CAHL director. This year Brent started co-coaching his daughter's team before he discovered his devastating news. When Brent was away getting treatments, his team and parents worked at showing him their support by having a B Strong inside an arm flexing patch added to the jerseys. What a heartfelt gesture!
Brent took a transfer to Brooks from Lloydminster with Tryton Tools Services in February 2011, and his family moved down when their house sold in August 2011, just in time for his son to start kindergarten and his daughter to still be in diapers.
On September 5th Brent and his son were on their way to Mosse Jaw, Sask, for Kayne to get moved in and settled into his billets place. The next day was registration where Kayne goes to school and plays hockey. It was a sunny day out, and when they passed by Reed lake, the alkaline dust was picked up, causing a salt whiteout. Both couldn't see an arm's length ahead of them, and Kayne ended up rear-ending Brent. After the accident, Brent had difficulty swallowing; the doctor and Brent thought it was an ulcer. So the doctor said to take the medication, and the ulcer could be gone in 5-7 days. When it wasn't, a scope was ordered the day after Thanksgiving. On October 11, Brent found out he had Stage 4 esophageal cancer. After meeting with the oncologist, he knew alternative medicine was what was needed. By Oct 21st, Brent had his plane ticket bought and his first treatment booked for Oct 24 down in Tijuana, Mexico. The Immunol Therapy Treatment was for 21 days, and he had chemo once a week for three weeks. After 21 days, the doctor wanted to do three more weeks of Chemo, so Brent stayed and finished his three more weeks.
When Brent was down in Tijuana, he heard about Rick Simpson RSO oil or FECO (Full extract cannabis oil), and upon receiving more information about this product, he made a huge decision to give it a try. Brent is waiting for the arrival of this medication to start. We hope to have it done sometime this week or early next week.
Brent meets with an oncologist in mid-December to figure out their plan moving forward. He will have to head back down to Tijuana in March for more treatments.
We all want the best outcome for Brent and funds are the most significant thing getting in the way of making this possible.
This GoFundMe is to help with all medical bills.
We will update everyone as soon as new or more information becomes available.
Brent, Gina, Kayne and Brynn appreciate all love you can share.
