ADA Compliant Home Reconstruction
Donation protected
As you may know, on September 14, 2016 our dad, Brent George, had a massive stroke that damaged his short term memory as well as his ability to use the right side of his body. He is currently in a rehabilitation center at Emory hospital receiving the therapy he needs to help him regain his physical and mental strength. He will be coming home in a few short weeks and that is the reason we are writing this letter.
Our intent here is to ask everyone in our communities and surrounding communities to rally together to help our parents. They have faithfully served the Lord by housing the homeless, feeding the hungry, and loving the outcasts, all the while doing so with very little income. They have also raised eleven children in the same home for over 30 years, and their house needs a great deal of work in order to be accessible for his new needs.
The specific issues that need to be fixed before they come home from rehab are:
- A new main floor living space that will conform to ADA standards for handicap living
- Reconstruction of their current downstairs office into a bedroom since he can no longer do stairs
- Reconstruction of their downstairs bathroom to make it handicap accessible
- Construction of a handicap ramp leading into the house and living space
We have projected that in order to adequately complete the list above, we will need around $7,000.00. All of the siblings are doing our best to rally together and raise the funds, but we are asking for your help as well. Any contribution is gratefully accepted and will be used strictly for “The George's Home Repairs”.
Please feel free to contact us with any specific questions, or if you want more details about the project.
In attempts to keep from overwhelming them/giving them a surprise to come home to, we ask that you do not share specific details with Brent and Laura about the projects going on at this time.
His projected discharge date is October 13th, so hopefully things will be able to be completed for the most part by then.
We are so grateful for all of the support we've received in prayers, meals, and help with our kids so that we can prepare the house and take care of things while they are away. God has blessed our family in so many ways, and we believe that our Heavenly Father will continue to provide for our parents to give them exactly what they need to adjust to their new circumstances.
We will be sending out updates of the progress as we go. Thank you so much for any and everything.
With love,
The George Kids
