Brett's Walking Fund- Making ends meet til then
Donation protected
My name is Caitie, I am Brett and Kim's oldest daughter. I am managing this Gofundme and the funds received for my parents. This money will help them pay the bills and manage other costs that have and will continue to come up over the next few months. (Things like getting the house accessible for Dad's new wheels and just accessible for him in general). We appreciate anything you have to offer.
On October 4th, my dad was in an accident involving a crane which led to his legs being crushed. It was a routine job with all safety measures in place, but with heavy machinery, things can change in a moment.
The boom fell on his legs, crushing them both and pinning him beneath the boom. Luckily he wasn't alone, emergency services were called, and he was rushed via ambulance to University Anschutz Hospital.
His left leg and ankle were broken, and the lower part of his right leg was crushed. Throughout the next week dad had a few surgeries, including the amputation of his right leg above his knee and a block and titanium rod placed in his left.
Dad's 55th birthday was October 8th and my parent's 15th wedding anniversary was October 9th, but he got to go home on October 13th.
As of right now, Dad's only job is to heal and stay in good spirits. He was gifted a wheelchair, which is how he gets around, and he's working every day on exercising his legs to strengthen both. There will be another surgery on his left leg to put in some bone grafting in a couple of months, but soon after that, we hope to get him up and moving again.
Eventually, Dad will get a prosthetic. He jokes that he will learn to walk again with his granddaughter Evelyn who is 12 weeks old now. We know that she is a big reason he will continue to fight and work towards walking again because one day, he wants to take his granddaughter fishing.
Dad continues to stay in good spirits and surprises us all with his strength and jokes. (Like asking the nurses- the day of his accident- if this meant that he now got his pedicures at half the cost).
