Brett is currently in the hospital in Alaska working towards healing enough for a liver transplant. We humbly ask for your prayers and support for Brett, Meghan and the kids as they head into this time of emotional and financial hardship.
On Sept. 16th Brett was days away from his fall trip home to Oregon after months away working for Alaska Fire Service. However, concerned coworkers noticed that, not only was he ill, he was not acting like himself. Insisting he be seen they took him to the ER. Meghan, without knowledge of the severity of the situation, followed her instinct and got on the first flight she could to be with him. Upon arriving, her fears were confirmed, tests had revealed that Brett had Covid and pneumonia, his body was filled with toxins, he had some internal bleeding and his kidneys and liver were failing. Brett was so sick that doctors were not sure he would make it through the night.
But Brett is a fighter. He made it through the first night, setting a trend of improving numbers with each test. The toxin load is lightening with the treatments and medication is helping to battle the infection. However, the news was not all great, tests have confirmed that his liver has shut down and his only option for long term recovery is a liver transplant. At this time it is unknown when Brett will be released or when he will be able to travel and return home to Oregon. The Fairchild family will need our help in many ways in the upcoming months, in addition to prayers for his healing and their overall strength. They have a lot of unknowns still to face, but they know that with the love and support of their family and friends they will be able to take it all, one step at a time.
