Brett's Surgery Recovery

Donation protected
Meet our brother Brett.

Brett is only 50 years old and just diagnosed with
severe peripheral vascular disease. He has serious damage to his heart from unknown heart attacks. He needs to have a double bypass at the heart and a special bypass on his abdominal aorta to restore blood flow to his legs. He is now taking blood medications and has to always carry nitroglycerin for emergencies.
Brett is scheduled for his first surgery, open heart double bypass, November 20th and will be unable to do anything during his recovery up to 4 months.

Brett’s luck has been down for quite some time starting with a tornado hitting his home years ago losing most of his belongings. He now lives in a camper. Brett was an over the road truck driver for 18 years, but now can't even drive a car. In 2010 he was injured on the job resulting in minor surgery and a head injury that ended his driving career. Because of these injuries he has been unable to get a job and has had to barter to just pay rent and his bills. Brett is a very proud man that doesn’t believe in disability and wants to do whatever he has to do to pay his own way. He's been washing cars, boats and even emptying the black tanks which is human waste for those of you not familiar with rv’s and boats. He has barely been getting by as he doesn't qualify for medical assistance from the state or social security.
Incapable of driving, unable to walk without constant pain, his family has wanted to bring him home to Grand Forks, ND. He had planned to come to Grand Forks mid-October to support our Mom during her cancer treatments, but is now unable to travel because of his dire medical situation.
My sister Melanie and I drove out to be by Brett’s side for his first surgery (double bypass open heart) that was scheduled for Oct 29th, but once there got told the surgery was canceled as it was pending approval by the hospital Board of Directors as a charity case. Since our return home the pain has moved up to Brett’s arm in addition to his legs. Brett has since received notice that he is approved for this surgery and is now rescheduled for November 20th. Although he is approved for medical attention he is not approved for medications or at home care.
His second major surgery (bypass on his abdominal aorta) will follow 6 weeks after the first surgery. He will be unable to do anything for up to 4 months following both surgeries.
Brett is in need of financial assistance for his bills and repairs to the camper he lives in. His furnace now needs to be replaced as it emits fumes when turned on. He currently uses (2) infrared heaters for heat.
My brother Brett is the most generous and caring person. While working driving truck he would send gifts home to my parents "just because". For a couple of years he played trucking Santa bringing presents and joy to many children.
We often ask God why the good ones have to struggle.
Brett will not ask anyone for help so I/his family are asking for him. These two major surgeries are a lot to endure besides having to recover away from family members.
Please help Brett so he doesn't have to worry about his living expenses along with his medical condition he is enduring now and in the future. Give to someone who has unselfishly given to others over the years. Please help our brother stay warm and get back
on his feet.

Thank you for your help.

Love,
