Brett Mortensen's Road to Recovery
Donation protected

My name is Kristin and I am raising funds for my dad, Brett Mortensen. On November 1st he had a massive stroke that has left him with devastating deficits.
Over 30% of his brain has died leaving him unable to use the right side of his body, speak, or understand us. He does remember us and has been able to express emotion through tears, squeezing our hands, one handed hugs, and a few precious half smiles.
News from the doctors has been bleak; they say he will never walk, use his right side, or speak again. The chances that he will ever return home are very slim as he will need extensive care.
We are fundraising for the many medical, living, and rehabilitation expenses that are looming. My mom is a full time labor and delivery nurse, but she is taking an unpaid leave of absence so that she can care for my dad. This means that they will no longer have a steady income in the coming months.
We need to raise these funds in the coming weeks and will use these funds to pay for medical and living expenses to enable my mom to care for my dad without worrying about how to pay the mortgage.
My dad is an amazing man, a very devoted father, grandfather, husband, son, and friend. He has been married to my mom for 34 years and they are still very much in love. He is one of the smartest, hardest working people that I know. He has a BS and MS degrees in electrical engineering from Brigham Young University and worked for Hewlett Packard for 29 years. He recently left the company to pursue an additional BS degree in computer science from Boise State University and he has been doing great there. We have been so proud of his efforts to improve himself and take good care of his family. Now it is our turn to care for him.
We will be so grateful for any donation you can offer and know that this will reduce the financial stress my mom now faces, enabling her to focus her energies on caring for my dad during his long road to recovery.
We believe in a God of miracles and are praying for one. We are also trying our best to accept that he will never be the same again. It is heartbreaking, but we have seen many tender mercies from the Lord throughout this experience. We know that my dad is in God's hands.
If you aren't able to donate, we will gratefully accept your prayers and faith. We are more grateful than we know how to express.
God bless,
The Mortensen Family
