Brewing Hope for RS: Uniting Breweries for Rio Grande do Sul

We're a group of five independent companies from the Brazilian craft beer scene that have come together to launch this initiative. We aim to bring together as many breweries worldwide as possible to raise funds to support the people most affected by the floods in Rio Grande do Sul.

The recent floods in Rio Grande do Sul have impacted almost the entire state, affecting over 90% of municipalities. The floods left behind a massive trail of destruction, affecting millions of people and devastating entire communities and cities. Yet, amidst such adversity, solidarity and unity have shone through like never before, with people from Brazil (and around the world) helping in any way they can.

This spirit of togetherness and hope is what drives us forward. It is in this spirit that the Brewing Hope for RS campaign was born.

What is the campaign?

Brewing Hope for RS is a collaborative initiative that brings together over 250 Brazilian and international breweries with a common goal: to produce a special beer, with sales proceeds going to support the flood victims in Rio Grande do Sul. This campaign aims not only to raise funds but also to showcase the strength and generosity of the global brewing community.

What are we aiming for?

Our goal is to raise significant funds to help rebuild the affected communities, providing emergency support and essential resources to families who have lost everything.

We want to show that together, we can make a difference. To achieve this, we are inviting breweries worldwide to join us in this effort by producing a beer that uses the same label across all locations, states in Brazil, and countries. A beer that is connected and united.

The Beer:

To facilitate adoption and further connect the breweries participating in this campaign, we have developed an open and collaborative recipe and label for everyone to use: a Session IPA.

The recipe was collaboratively developed by brewers Scott Janish from Sapwood Cellars (MD/USA), Gustavo Simoni from Koala San Brew (MG/Brazil), and Thiago Galbeno from Hops Company (RS/Brazil).

The recipe features Strata® and Centennial hops as the base, aiming to combine fruity, tropical, and citrus notes with a resinous touch, balancing the overall sensory profile. Each sip of this beer represents an act of solidarity and hope, reflecting the brewing community’s commitment to making a difference.

How It Works:

Any brewery with donations from USD 250.00 will receive the recipe, the campaign's visual materials, as well as the label file to be edited and adjusted according to local laws. Once your donation is confirmed, we will contact you to send the visual materials, recipe, and label. That's It! the rest is up to you, you have complete freedom to brew and launch the beer in any way you feel It works best for your brewery.

Participating breweries receive a visual kit with an editable label and promotional materials, as well as mentions on the campaign page and social media.

Destination of Funds:

All funds raised will be donated to the NGO Movimento União BR, the winner of the 2020 Social Entrepreneur Award, which is directly working in the affected areas, providing food donations, emergency assistance, and working on the reconstruction of schools and homes. We believe this NGO is the most suitable to manage the funds and allocate them correctly, with the dynamism and speed the situation demands, as different needs arise each day and week.

The NGO has played a crucial role since the beginning of the floods, offering continuous support to the most affected communities.

Who Can Participate:

Breweries: Choose one of the two donation options, receive the recipe and promotional material, and brew your beer!

General Public: You can also donate here with any amount. Every donation helps immensely! We also encourage you to spread the word about the campaign to known breweries and, if possible, drink the campaign beers as soon as they are available!
