In Loving Memory of Brian Dalrymple
We lost Brian Dalrymple far too soon. On Wednesday March 17th, we lost him to a severe heart attack.
Keith and I (Eric) were with him at the very end, and tried to help him fight on. It was just too much for him to make it through.
He waited until late in life for life insurance, and did not qualify. We are hoping to raise enough to provide for his final expenses and to navigate probate so that his brother can continue Brian's life's work.
Anyone that knew Brian knows he was a gentle soul that had a kind word for everyone. Brian always assumed the best of every person. Even to the point of naiveite. He was burned several times by people he helped/trusted but he never once lost faith in everyone else and always assumed the best in every new person he met.
As a central figure in South Florida's gaming community, Brian came to know so many people that were mistreated at school, by family, or others who desperately wanted to find a community to join. The Dragon's Lair - later the Adventure Game Store - has been a home for that community building for over 30 years.
He was generous with his time, often to the detriment of his own financial health or personal calm. He volunteered for the Games Industry, for professional panels on gaming or graphic design, and in the local community for libraries and youth groups.
He had a childlike wonder towards many things we find mundane. He was enraptured by winter weather, growing up in Miami he never experienced it. Into his 50s, as a seasoned traveler, he still thrilled at looking our airplane windows at the earth far below. He would listen to musical performances and disappear into the experience. He loved games, he loved to play games, make games, learn about games, read games, but most of all he loved to watch others play games.
All proceeds will go towards his final expenses and the inevitable expenses, followed by supporting his legacy at the Adventure Game Store.
