The Brian Doherty Cancer Care Fund
Don protégé
Our Big Wreck brother, Brian Doherty, for the past 9 months has been in the fight of his life battling cancer. He is a VERY humble and discreet individual. He had hoped to keep this private but circumstances have changed. We have recently found that his cancer is terminal.
He is loved by the fans for his masterful contributions to Big Wreck these past 21 years. His musical legacy, touring all over the world, sharing his gift of music and musicianship with us all has touched our lives deeply. We now have a chance to give back in a really meaningful way.
A graduate of Berklee College of Music, he has been a wonderful teacher to many guitar students with his dedicated, in-depth and nuanced methods. His down to earth connection with his students is his standard. He has sadly been too weak to teach through much of this process.
In his adopted hometown of Sarnia, he is well known on the local music scene and LOVED for his generosity and caring attitude. Brian is an active member in his AA community. He was also pursuing his rehab counseling degree and an opportunity at Ray of Hope to start a therapeutic music and guidance support group program to assist those struggling with addiction. He has a heart for those who struggle.
Brian is also a “Big Brother” to a local youth and has spent years of hands-on quality time enriching this young man’s life.
This last nine months have been brutal. The physical effects of the treatment have been devastating. The costs have been overwhelming. To lessen the burden on his family, his Mom in particular, we ask you to donate to someone we would all agree has given us fans, collaborating musicians and community at large so much.
Please donate if you can. Share on your Facebook, Instagram, Twitter.
