Brian has been a long time friend of mine and many others. Thirteen years ago Brian lost his leg, above the knee in a motorcycle accident. As you can imagine aside from the trauma of losing your leg Brian had a very long road to recovery. After many struggles that most of us couldn’t begin to imagine, three years of rehab, and a positive spirit, Brian learned how to adapt to life slowly but surely and learned to walk again. Over the years Brian has overcome many obstacles from learning how to walk again, learning basic mobility, and achieving a normal quality life. Losing his leg has not stopped him from doing anything and everything he sets his mind too. This includes activities such as jet skiing, hiking, dancing, DJing in front of large crowds, and so much more. What I love about his spirit is that not having a leg has NEVER stopped him from doing anything he wants. That is until now, Brian has now reached a point where he is in dire need of a new prosthesis. He can no longer walk or stand for long periods of time. An hour of standing or walking has now become excruciating to the point where he can no longer tolerate the pain or ignore the extreme discomfort. Brian is a DJ and loves to play music. This is his passion and he has made a career out of this, but as you can imagine requires him to stand for long periods of time, and it's getting harder and harder for him to do that in his current situation. He would love to be able to work and not have to think of the pain he will be in. Additionally the poor fit of his current prosthesis has caused him to wear it less and now he must resort to crutches. This has also had a serious impact on his health. Exercise which is critical for him is no longer an option until he can get a replacement. Even with health insurance, prosthesis are not cheap and have hefty co-pays. Unfortunately Brian does not currently have health coverage, and has been denied Medicare, leaving him to deal with the burden of getting fitted for a new, more comfortable socket for his prosthetic. We want to ask for your help to get Brian back to a normal way of life and most importantly functioning like a normal human with two legs not just one. Anything you can contribute would be greatly appreciated. Please see the attached link to view the type of prosthetic we are hoping to get for Brian. https://www.martinbionics.com/socket-less-socket-transfemoral/
The cost of the new socket is over $8,200 plus travel expenses to go get fitted by Martin Bionics in Oklahoma. Our goal is to raise $8,000 to get Brian on his way to a new, much more comfortable socket using modern technology, instead of the outdated hard-socket he currently has, for his health and well-being.
