Brian Rigsby Medical Fund
Brian Rigsby was a member of my third grade classroom 7 years ago. He will always hold a dear and special place in my heart as he does with anyone who meets him and his loving parents, Scott and Elisabeth.
Recently, he has been facing medical issues associated with his condition, Myelomeningocele- spina bifida.
Elisabeth took Brian to Sacred Heart ER on January 12 because of a pressure sore. It turns out that was the least of his problems. His white blood cell count was over 20,000. Normal is 12. They found out Brian had a bowel blockage. The next day he was transferred to Children's Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham.
Brian had surgery on January 15 to remove a blockage in his small intestines. They had to cut the blockage out and create an ostomy. On January 24, Brian had another surgery on his shunt. He was in the hospital for about 2 weeks. He was released on January 28.
The very next day, Brian was back in the ER at Sacred Heart because he was very dehydrated. He also had a severe UTI, which turned into sepsis. Thankfully he was in the ICU Progressive Care Unit when they noticed his blood pressure and pulse dropped dangerously low. Lots of fluids and antibiotics helped bring it back to normal. But he was staying dehydrated because he was losing too much fluid through his ostomy.
On February 6, Brian was transferred back to Birmingham. He is getting IV nutrition and lots of fluids. Brian is feeling better and waiting for the surgery to reverse the ostomy.
Right now his surgery is scheduled for February 15th. He will be in the hospital one or two weeks following the surgery.
The Rigsby family need help to offset the cost of traveling, hotels, gas, and food. During this time, Scott's employer has been very understanding during and allowed him to do what he needs to take care of his family.
The Rigsbys are a close, Christian family. They will not ask for financial help, but need the support of their friends, family and community. Any amount you can contribute will be much appreciated.
Above all, please pray for comfort and healing for Brian!
