My Uncle Brian was an amazing man that lived a full life. He was always the first person to help anyone in need, whether family, friends or regulars at the bar he used to manage. He never expected anything in return, that's just how he was: generous, loving and kind.
Brian Anthony Schug passed away on January 21. 2022 after a 38 year battle with diabetes. Brian was a successful salesman, working with big names like Sprint and several small start-up telecom companies.
The last 10 years were challenging for him both work and health-wise.
Brian's body deteriorated over the years until eventually, he was no longer able to work. Since then, due to poor investments, he has survived on social security income alone. The benefit amount was $100 more a month than would allow for him to qualify for any state aid. Julie, his AMAZING wife, has been filing for disability for several years because of severe back issues, only to keep being denied due to not having enough evidence of her ailment. It was hard for Brian and Julie to get a second opinion and deeper scans like CT and MRI done because they were financially limited.
We are raising money to help cover the costs involved in end-of-life necessities, including cremation and other services. We also want to help provide a financial buffer for Julie while she awaits potential spousal benefits from social security and, eventually, God willing, disability payments. Without recognition of disability, Julie is not eligible for spousal benefits until 2028.
Julie is an angel who's been with Brian for almost 20 years, married the last 7. She did everything for him, that he would allow her to do anyway, as Brian was an independent person who preferred to take care of himself and those around him. He kept quiet about his health and financial struggles. His medical file is over a foot thick and includes things like several stents, quadruple bypass, removal of gallbladder, removal of bladder, insertion of pacemaker, and amputation of half of his foot. Julie has been his caretaker for years, struggling through her own pain to nurse him after all of these surgeries and procedures.
Any amount you can contribute would be a blessing to Brian's family, especially Julie, his widow. He was so worried about how she would financially survive after his passing. Thank you for taking the time to read this. May you be blessed beyond measure for your kindness and generosity, just as Uncle Brian was for having Julie by his side.
