Brian Schwenning's Battle to keep Living

I am starting this fundraiser to help Brian during his battle with diabetes, cirrhosis of the liver and chronic kidney disease. As his girlfriend I have spent the past 3 years as Brians full-time caretaker assisting him with daily tasks, woundcare, IV antibiotics, arranging and taking him to and from his doctor appointments. In the last few years Brian has had his lower left leg amputated and majority of his right foot. Those who know him know that he wasnt gonna let that slow him down and continued to do what he loves, being the local mechanic! A month ago Brian was in great pain and was unable to get out of bed, he was rushed to the hospital and was diagnosed with sepsis throughout his body...attacking his kidneys that nearly shut them down. It took a couple of weeks searching for the source of the infection,and than Brian under went surgery to have an abcess removed from his spinal cord in his neck. After surgery Brian did not wake up for 5 days! Being the fighter that he is he finally awoken quite confused and fully able to communicate however, he cannot move his arms and legs. While remaining in ICU doctors are still running test and have started dialysis to help recover some of Brians kidney function unitl he can apply for a kidney transplant. He still isn't fully in the clear and has a long road to recovery.

I have spent the last 3 years as his full time caretaker and "tool girl" while he worked on cars from his wheel chair. While I dont know if he will ever be able to continue his passion, he is now going to require much more assistance as well as ongoing medical services, supplies and other items to continue care for him when he comes home.

I am asking for assistance on his behalf to relieve some of the financial stress so that Brian can focus on his health. Any donations made while he is in the hospital will be used to keep current on our monthly bills as well as gas and upkeep on our vehicle so that I can continue to visit and provide support.

The remaining donations will be used for additional medical bills and supplies Brian will need during his recovery. Any amount of donations will be greatly appreciated.
