Brian Thomas McConnell Memorial Fund

Donation protected

Brian McConnell, known as “Boomer” to his Michigan State University football family, was an exceptional football player and leader for the Spartan Football Team. I remember when I first met Brian at mass in St. John’s Student Parish when we were recruited together, that he was not only a great football player, but a person of character and faith. He had a vision for the future and a commitment to always give 110% on and off the football field. We immediately became close friends and ultimately a significant part of Brians family. We always enjoyed seeing Brian’s wife Pier and offering our home to his daughter Patricia, who followed in her dad’s footsteps, and became a Spartan at Michigan State University. Unfortunately, Brian has dealt with significant health issues for the past 15 years, that has drained his finances, and left his family with significant medical bills. In an effort to help Brian’s family, I ask that you please consider making a donation to the Brian McConnell Go Fund Me Medical Fund. Your support of any amount will significantly help Brian’s family, and honor the legacy that Brian has left.

Sincerely, John Shinsky, Very Close Friend and MSU Football Teammate

In loving memory of Brian Thomas McConnell, a cherished resident of Danville, CA, who peacefully passed away on November 14th, 2023. Brian's journey began in New Jersey, where he was born and raised, and he carried the spirit of his roots throughout his remarkable life.

A product of Catholic education, Brian attended the Peddie School, where he graduated in 1969. His high school years were marked by outstanding achievements in both football and track, foreshadowing the exceptional athletic career that lay ahead. This passion for sports led him to Michigan State University, where he not only earned a football scholarship but also became a distinguished 3-year letterman and received the coveted All BIG Ten award in 1972. Brian's dedication and skill on the field caught the attention of the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins and Houston Oilers and he went on to play seven memorable years in the NFL after graduating in 1973.

Beyond the football field, Brian carved out a successful career as a global businessman, traversing the world on international ventures. His professional journey was characterized by resilience, vision, and a commitment to excellence. Brian's zest for life extended beyond the boardroom, as he found joy in exploring different corners of the world during his travels.

In addition to his illustrious achievements in the world of sports and business, Brian Thomas McConnell proudly served in the Marine Corps, embodying the values of honor, courage, and commitment. His time in the Marine Corps further exemplified his dedication to a life of service, leaving an indelible mark on both his personal and professional legacy.

Brian leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment, survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Pier McConnell, and their loving children: Thomas McConnell, Patricia Laird (Jonathan Laird), and Caroline McConnell. The McConnell family finds solace in the memories they shared and the love that will endure in their hearts.

Services will be held in January following the holidays. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to this GoFundMe page to help with his extensive medical bills. May we remember Brian for the warmth he brought to our lives and the indelible mark he left on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
