Hi,
My name is Barry Treacy, I’m Brian’s younger brother. Brian owns a Butcher’s shop in Ardnacrusha, Co. Clare, and simply put, it’s his pride and joy.
Brian was unfortunately struck down by a sudden illness just over two weeks ago. Somehow he managed to soldier through the initial symptoms, which would have been excruciating and debilitating by all accounts, and kept the shop open and kept turning up. Which is what he has done for 7 years, 6 days a week, with no holidays. By the end of the week it had got so bad that even he had to admit defeat and he checked into A and E at Limerick University Hospital. They immediately recognised how grave his condition was and he was rushed through, and within hours he was brought in for surgery, which lasted nearly 6 hours.
After surgery, we were initially told that he had a 40% chance of survival. It happened so fast, and had he left it a few more hours before going into hospital, or had the doctors and nurses not acted so decisively, he likely would not be with us today. A thought I cannot not bear.
But he is with us today, and he is stable and improving. He has had several surgeries since, and will likely need more, but each day is a step further along what is likely to be a long road to hopeful recovery.
He never asks for anything, but he is in need of help from those who care about him, or who can relate to his situation, and are in a position to help. And every little bit helps.
The funds raised will go towards medical costs, costs of rehabilitation, and paying other associated bills with his recovery and being out of work in the medium term.
The profile picture I have uploaded is a message that Brian wrote for his family shortly after being brought off sedation…it simply says “I Love You All”. It would have taken a lot of effort to write this in his state, but even after all he had gone through, love was at the forefront of his mind.
Thank you in advance
Barry Treacy
*UPDATE 25th August 2023*
We have had consistent good news over the last couple of weeks regards Brian’s health, thankfully. He returned home early last week and has been receiving house visits from nurses, and attends out patients for check ups and treatment. His consultant is delighted with his recovery to date and there is a lot of optimism for how he will progress in the future.
There is still uncertainty over what the next steps are in terms of treatment, and this is going to be an ongoing development.
Regards his shop, it is Brian’s intention to return to work, and he is hoping the next two weeks will give a clearer picture on when this may be possible, and in what capacity.
Brian, and his whole family, would like to thank everyone who has donated, messaged with support, called, texted and kept them in their thoughts. It has no doubt given him the strength to fight back from the brink. 8 weeks ago doctors gave him a 20-25% survival chance (we were given the full picture of just how bad Brian was in the first few days, on his release from hospital) and today he is with us and getting stronger every day.
From the bottom of my heart, Thanks,
Barry
