Briana Brave

Hi, my name is Alexa and I am starting this fundraiser in support of my cousin Briana Dolomite.

Briana is 8 years old and within the past several weeks, has been diagnosed with a Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG), a type of cancerous brain tumor. Briana’s DMG is a grade 4, which is the most aggressive type.

Briana lives in FL with her mom but was spending part of her summer vacation with her dad in NY. While away from home, Briana started experiencing a facial droop and some weakness, which lead her family to bring her to the hospital. On 7/28, her family received the news no parent should ever have to hear; MRIs showed a 4cm mass near her brain stem. On 7/30 Briana underwent emergency brain surgery at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital to remove as much of the tumor as possible, which was about 50%.

On 8/11 she was discharged to St. Charles Rehabilitation where she will stay for at least 2 weeks, working on occupational and physical therapy to strengthen deficits following the surgery. The next course of action is 6+ weeks of radiation at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to shrink the remaining tumor. At this time, the prognosis is unclear, but we are hoping for the best.

Unfortunately, much of this care is out of network; however, due to the urgency and severity of the situation, proceeding with out-of-network care was the only option her family had.

As you can imagine, expenses will begin to accumulate immensely during this time. Briana has a long road ahead of her, and fundraising is being done to help ease the financial burden her family will experience so that they can focus on being there for her physically and mentally.

This sweet girl has shown so much strength and resilience in the last few weeks and just wants to feel like a kid again. Her family is appreciative and overwhelmed by all the outpourings of love and support. Please continue to send all of your positive vibes, love, prayers and strength!
