Briana Recovery Support Fund

My name is Shaykhia Washington and I am the sister-in-law to Briana and posting on behalf of the family. On Wednesday, July 13th Briana, a 26 year old single mother of 2 boys, became another innocent victim of Philadelphia's gun violence epidemic. Briana was shot in the head while riding in the car with her two sons and her cousin in West Philadelphia. The car was randomly shot at traveling to visit family. Her youngest son, 2 years old, was grazed and 6 year old fortunately was not physically injured. The 2 year old has recovered from his injuries. Although physically the boys are ok, the emotional impact has been severe, especially for the 6 year old who bear witness to everything. Briana is currently in the hospital in a coma fighting to recover from this major injury. Her final prognosis is unknown, but she has lost her right eye totally and possibly can lose vision in her left eye. This situation has not only shaken up this small family's world, but also the world of others they love. Briana only recently moved back to Philadelphia and was in the process of moving to her own place outside of the city. This situation has greatly impacted the young family's success and future. Being a Single Mother, Briana relied on the help of her mother and father. The two have filled in as the sole caregivers of the boys in Briana's absense. This sudden tragedy has caused a financial burden for the family. The uncertainity the future holds also puts financial strain on the grandparents. Also, now injured with a long road of recovery and learning to live without an eye, Briana's future career plans are now on hold. The family can use any help at this time.
