Hi, my name is Jessica Cunningham, Brianas sister. Bri was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid leukemia (AML). She was given several rounds of chemo. The doctors were able to put the cancer into remission twice. Once for a month. And the second time (with the help of her biological fathers stem cells) for five months. But the 2nd remission came at a cost. About 6 weeks ago, the new cells started attacking her organs (this is called GVHD). In order to try and save her, the doctors had to suppress her immune system. With her immune system suppressed the cancer cells were able to reproduce. Once the cancer was detected in her blood again the Doctor told her that her prognosis was grim. She is coming home where she can pass comfortably. This Chemo was especially brutal on her body. Her immune system was completely destroyed. This stopped her bodies natural ability to heal the damage that was being caused by the GVHD. After the Chemo it didn’t take long for her liver to start to fail, and she started to bleed internally. At this point she has lost about 95% of her motor skills. And her speech is garbled. As we all are going through a rough time. No one deserves this so young.
