As many of you know, I have spent the past three years pouring my heart and soul into creating the very best Latin program that I could for Chelsea High School. From tutoring programs to student-centered activities and project-based learning, to afterschool activities and field trips, I did the very best that I could to make my classroom a place where students felt challenged, but always loved. Unfortunately, I found out on Friday, May 5th that Chelsea High School is discontinuing my Latin program, and therefore I no longer have a position there the following year.
Amongst trying to make sense of how I would tell my family, my friends, and most importantly the kids who I have come to love, I came to see this as an opportunity to do what I have always dreamed of doing: teach abroad.
As of Tuesday, May 16th I have been accepted into my dream program: a 4 week Spanish Immersion and teaching placement in Spain. While I am beyond thrilled not only for the opportunity to teach abroad, but also for the opportunity to learn Spanish, I also realized very quickly that I am not financially prepared to make such a big life change.
It is for this reason, that I turn to my support network and ask for your help. Even with working as many hours as I can in the time between ending the school year and begininng the program, I will not be able to earn the amount of money I need in order to cover the cost of the immersion program. Between the cost of the flight, housing and meals during the immersion program, and other fees associated with relocating abroad, I will need to come up with over $7,000 in the next two months. For those who don't know, this is pretty unrealistic on a teacher's salary :)
I have always been passionate about teaching, and have developed a passion for language and travel. I hope that you will help me in making these passions a reality. Any and all donations that you are able to make are greatly appreciated, and will go towards making this lifelong dream come true.
