Brian's Battle against AML

UPDATE!!

We have settled in for the long haul!! He started the trial medicine on Tuesday. Today was his first day of conditioning chemo. Ten hours of chemo today, and for the next 3 days. Yes, hewas in that chair for the day. We did get a break for lunch but it was a lonnnnng day. 3 more to go plus 1 day of rest. He will get his new stem cells on Wednesday!!!!! After that, he will have one more round of chemo to help his body not reject the transplanted cells. Then, it's the road to recovery. We hope to be home the first week of August!!!! He may not be out and about but messages, calls, and just comments make him smile. Thank you all for the overwhelming and humbling support. It truly is amazing. If you want to visit after we get home, don't be offended when I hand you a mask and hand sanitizer!!!

February 24th Brian was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Luekemia. After a very long hospital stay and 2 rounds of chemotherapy we are excited to let you all know that he currently is Luekemia free! ❤️❤️❤️ This is the best possible scenerio for him headed into his Bone Marrow Transplant!!! He is scheduled to start the transplant process on July 9th 2024. He is going to be doing this as an outpatient procedure, meaning he will be staying at a local hotel every night with a caregiver (Sarah). We will be traveling back and forth from the hotel everyday to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. After he gets discharged from the transplant process he will need to be back in Boston once a week, every week, for at least 3 months. The travel expenses are going to add up quickly!! We are still looking for help in paying for hotel and travel expenses while he goes through this process. The last one night stay we had was $300+ for our room and $40 dollars for one night of parking. He has also been accepted into a medical trial that has been showing very positive results. This treatment plan will require him to spend 5 days in Boston every 45 days for the first year after his transplant. So about 8 trips in a year.
