Bridging The Gap For Laid Off Java Blend Employees
Donation protected
On Tuesday January 23rd nine baristas were laid off from Java Blend Coffee in Halifax Nova Scotia. We were informed that our employment was being severed effective immediately and that our last shifts worked were our last shifts ever.
We are being paid out according to the minimum standards as set by the Nova Scotian Labour board. However for part time employees and others lacking seniority these amounts are very small. We are seeking funds to help bridge the time between our layoffs and unemployment and to assist each other in paying rent, bills, and buying medication.
Funds will be divided equally among the affected staff, as agreed upon by the group.
Baristas were involved in an active union campaign when we were laid off. We have filed an Unfair Labour Practice Complaint through SEIU Local 2 and are hosting a rally at Java Blend on North Street at 1:00pm on February 10th. You're invited!
