Briella’s Wish to Walk & Talk

Our Cerebral Palsy Warrior

My name is Briella Naif and I’m a sweet, darling, happy 5-year-old girl. I was born 6 weeks premature weighing only 3lbs 11oz and spent 24 days in the NICU. Two years ago, I was diagnosed with Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy (CP) which effects all four of my limbs.
Briella is a very social girl although she is non verbal and goes to multiple different therapies each week such as: Speech, Physical and Occupational therapy. Currently, Briella uses a walker to walk and wears her AFO’s (foot braces) every day which help to assist her with everyday aspects of life.  This year she will undergo a life changing surgery to give her the ability to one day take her very FIRST INDEPENDENT STEPS!! Cerebral Palsy cant stop her!!

SDR CHANGES LIVES

On June 22, 2018 Briella will undergo a LIFE CHANGING surgery called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) at Mott Children's University of Michigan Hospital to help get rid of the spasticity in her body caused by Cerebral Palsy. “Spastic" is high muscle tone and tightness in her muscles which is very painful and gets worse with aging especially through growth spurts. This major back surgery will help Briella’s bones and muscles to grow and develop properly which will give her a greater chance of INDEPENDENT WALKING. Without this surgery she may be bound to a wheel chair later in life and may not have any independence as the spasticity will cause her pain and tightness.
For the surgery to be a success she will need intensive physical therapy every day in office 3-5 times a week for YEAR after the surgery to be able to learn to walk again and build strength throughout her entire body. However, insurance only covers 30 PT visits for the year and she will max out of these visits. For an hour of PT its $150+ out of pocket once we max out. Physical therapy is crucial for Briella after SDR surgery for the surgery to become a success, so she can one day take her very first independent steps. Briella will require well-over 200 PT visits within the first year after SDR surgery.

Stem Cells & Cerebral Palsy

In addition to  SDR surgery and intensive physical therapy we are hoping to raise enough money, so Briella can begin Stem cell therapy which is a new treatment that is showing amazing results in kids with Cerebral Palsy. Stem cell therapy is showing  life changing results allowing kids to accomplish physical tasks that had never been possible before!! Stem cells help to repair the brain damage caused by CP which will allow her to be able to walk independently, and hopefully improve speech to a point where she can tell us what she wants or needs. We don't want our daughter to be limited on things in life due to her disability, but be able to fully enjoy life without pain and limitations caused by CP. Stem cell therapy is remarkable and these injections are very expensive and are only available in a few locations throughout the United States. One of the locations specializing in Stem Cell treatment for CP is in California at RejuvaYou Medical center with Dr. John Shieh. For a dose of stem cells with the micro current machine to help the stem cells move to the brain where the damage is costs $11,000 plus the flight and hotel in California while we are there.

We fully believe that SDR surgery and Stem Cell therapy will give Briella the dream of living the best life possible and to enjoy being a kid! As a mother we pray and jump over mountains to see our children succeed, my dream for Briella one day is giving her the freedom to walk, talk, live and love life!! ❤️
