Do you like finding new music? How about helping an up-and-coming artist record and release singles? Do records by Liz Phair, Marine Girls, Soccer Mommy, and Linda Smith make the earwax dance in your auditory canal?

Today, my friend, is your lucky day.

I am a busker and songwriter who has written over 125 songs, recorded an EP, and spent a year playing at all the MBTA subway stations. During the pandemic, I wrote material for my first long-player, a concept album about a difficult friendship that's informed by Elif Batuman's novel The Idiot. After receiving a grant from my local cultural council to mix and master the first single, "Ivan", I decided to release three more singles in 2022 to raise my profile and get listeners excited about the rest of the album.

I've assembled a dream team to bring four of the songs to a broader audience. My friend Christian, the creative force behind projects like Orson and the Rosebuds and Whether Balloon, will be mixing my songs, and my frequent collaborator Joel Edinberg will be mastering the singles I release this year. Chance Brown, who designed my flyers and the cover of Greetings from Rocky Point, will be designing the sleeve art for these singles. My new friend Emily --who made a moving tribute to my favorite TV show, Joe Pera Talks with You--will direct a video for the song "Rudolph's Ranch" inspired by Ringo's lonely walk in A Hard Day's Night. In addition, I have an opportunity to record one of the songs in an unusual location with a friend whose work has inspired me since middle school.

Obviously, getting all of this made costs money. This is where you come in.

I want to raise $1500 to cover postproduction costs for these songs.

  • $200/song for mixing
  • $50/song for mastering
  • $400 for the video
  • $50/EP covers
  • Funding TBD for licensing cover songs as B-sides to the singles

...plus the taxes and fees associated with a crowdfunding project like this one.

To fund this, I've started Brindle's Summer Singles Club. By making a $10 contribution here, you will get each of the singles (one fully mixed/mastered song, one original song that didn't make the album, and a cover of a song Elif Batuman has referenced in The Idiot or Either/Or) 24 hours in advance of their release on Bandcamp, plus high-quality cover art and ukulele chords. Those who donate $15 will also receive my previous recordings (Greetings from Rocky Point and the benefit single Twin Lights) and a postcard I will send on the way back from recording "Rudolph's Ranch" at the undisclosed location.

I have recorded three of the four singles I will be releasing. "Ivan", the first single, has been mixed and mastered and is ready for release on June 3. Additionally, I have a rough mix of "Linden Street", which will be released in August, and we will be recording overdubs of "Something's Wrong" on 27 May for an October release. In the event that I am unable to record "Rudolph's Ranch" in the undisclosed location, I have a home recording that I can release in its stead. The B-sides are also ready for release, pending licenses.

Thank you so much for reading this. I'm very excited to share these songs with you, and I hope you will donate!

Love,
Chelsea
