Bring Barbara Steinhauser (Kalinowski) Home
Donation protected
We are raising funds to help bring our beloved Barbara Steinhauser (Kalinowski) back home to Long Island after a devastating medical emergency while she was on vacation in the Dominican Republic. Barbara, a long-time teacher at Tooker Avenue School in West Babylon and a proud alumna of Gettysburg College, suffered a subdural hematoma, which required immediate brain surgery.
While the surgery was successful, Barbara remains unconscious, though doctors are hopeful she will wake soon. Her recovery journey is far from over, and we need to transport her to the United States to ensure she gets the best possible care. Her parents, family, and friends are deeply concerned about her condition and are trying to arrange for her medical transportation.
Barbara is a loving mother to two teenage daughters. She is so proud that her oldest daughter has followed in her footsteps and is a freshman at Gettysburg College. Her younger daughter is an honor senior in high school and is looking forward to her prom and graduation. Barbara’s greatest joy is encouraging her daughters' success. She has always been a source of strength and support for her family, friends, and community. Now, it’s our turn to help her in her time of need.
Her parents are working hard to bring her home, where she can be closer to her family and in a medical environment where they can better communicate with her doctors. However, the cost of medical transportation from the Dominican Republic is incredibly high—$42,000. This includes a specialized private plane to transport Barbara to a U.S. hospital safely and medical expenses that her insurance does not cover in the Dominican Republic.
***UPDATE***
A huge THANK YOU to the almost five hundred friends and family who have been so incredibly giving! Words can't express our gratitude. We appreciate your support during this difficult time. You have generously given, unfortunately, we need your help again. This time we ask those who have already contributed to share Barabara's story. Her condition remains serious but hopeful. However, we cannot transport her to the U.S. until her hospital bill is paid in full. This is in addition to the $42,000 for medical transport. There are anticipated additional medical expenses coming up in the future.
