Bring Bret Home

Donation protected
My father, Jason “Bret” Sullins, is currently on ventilator life support fighting for his life. Bret is the husband to his wife, Karla, and a father to 6 children. To speak a little about my dad, he cannot sit still. If you have been around him for more than 5 minutes you know you just can’t keep up with him. He’s smart, witty, and caring. This sickness has dealt him an awful set of cards that nobody could have ever anticipated, and it is especially hard for someone like my dad who can’t find it in him to sit still, even now as he’s confined to the hospital bed. He first contracted Covid, and then quickly after, pneumonia at the end of July 2021. He went into the hospital 8/6/21, only to be intubated and put on a ventilator just three days later, where he remains. This illness has been a rollercoaster. On 9/4/21 the worst of this sickness got the best of him when he coded twice (died, for those who like myself didn’t know what that meant). It was the very worst phone call any of us could ever receive, but God said, “Not yet”. He brought my dad back in a series of divine events that none could doubt. Things are not, and have not been easy, but since then he’s had significant improvement. Measurably, longer CPAP trials (ahem, a current record of 20 hours, but who is bragging), sustaining and holding steady at the lowest vent settings for at least the past couple of months, and regaining so much mobility. On 10/19/21, he even got to go outside for the first time since being hospitalized. He’s currently in the midst of a great struggle. His lungs have significant damage with 15-20% being normal/undamaged lung tissue. The odds are NOT in his favor, but we are praying for a miracle. The fact that he’s here is a miracle, and we don’t say that lightly. Back to a little bit more about my dad. He’s one of the most independent people you could ever meet, hardworking to the end. These types tend to work best as their own boss, and so he’s held private companies for the vast majority of his career. He currently owns and manages a construction company that Karla helped to run when he was well. Currently, Karla is having to shoulder the burden of super wife/mom/CEO. My brother has stepped in to help, but also runs his own business and the construction industry is dependent on continued new business. My dad did not hold health insurance, he had no preexisting health conditions and was a fit and active person prior to this. Our family desperately needs help, it is part of our prayer for a miracle. Our hope is to bring him home to heal on the ventilator to try to provide him the care we feel he’s lacking, and relieve some of the stress for the large medical bills that have been coming in. We just can’t do this without some help. Please help us, whatever way you can. A prayer is sometimes all you might be able to afford and we’ll take all of these as well. They’re so valuable and healing to us!
Thank you, and God bless you from the bottom of our hearts!
