Bring Comfort to Donival Gaston's Final Days

Restoring Home and Health: Support for Our Retired Mailman

Dear caring community,

We're reaching out to you on behalf of a retiree who has dedicated his life to serving our community. Donival Gaston, a retired mailman at the age of 76, not only delivered our mail but also provided unwavering care to his mother through her battle with Alzheimer’s.

Facing new challenges in his own golden years, Donival Gaston had to move into independent living due to severe damage and mold infestation in his home caused by a leak. He then transitioned to assisted living. The transition to assisted living brought further complications, resulting in a stage 3 bedsore on his elbow that became septic and almost caused his death. His daughter has moved him to 3 different facilities with each one being subpar and neglectful. He has had 3 surgeries on the elbow attempting to close the wound. The wound is still healing over 1 year later.

Recently, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's, which is a progressive and degenerative disease. He can no longer walk independently. His swallowing has recently become a challenge. Mr. Gaston is entering the final stages of his life.

Donival Gaston’s daughter, Shemmash Gaston, a hardworking nurse, is determined to bring her father back home. Shemmash is willing to pause her life to care for her father until he is called to his final resting place. Shemmash has been working multiple jobs to assist with his care and renovate the house. However, corrupt contractors took advantage of her, leaving her without enough funds to complete the necessary renovations.
