Bring Evelyn’s Dada Home!

Dear Family, Friends, and Kind-Hearted Strangers,

With heavy hearts, we are reaching out to ask for help for a sweet family whose lives have been upended by a sudden emergency. Khanhi’s husband was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement after his routine annual check-in at his local ICE office. Khanhi’s husband is being treated like a criminal, being held in a detention center and facing deportation.
Khanhi and her husband were small children fleeing from war-torn Vietnam when they were brought to the USA by their mothers. Khanhi became a citizen over the years, but her husband was only given an order of supervision and allowed a work permit. For over 40 years , Khanhi and her husband have lived and worked in the USA. Her husband is a hardworking and committed husband to Khanhi and father to their two year-old daughter, Evelyn. Khanhi’s husband is a 100% “girl dad” who loves being a father. Khanhi and her husband went through numerous grueling rounds of IVF treatments to finally get their miracle baby and now the family is separated. The trauma of the separation is almost unbearable for the family. This is an inhumane form of punishment. Khanhi has been a social worker for over a decade supporting cancer patients and terminally ill patients. Now, Khanhi needs help herself as she navigates the complex immigration system trying to save her family. Khanhi’s husband was the main caregiver of Evelyn during the day while Khanhi worked. Khanhi’s husband worked nights and weekends to provide financially for his family. Evelyn is having immense difficulty adjusting to her “dada” being away from the home. Khanhi’s husband is unable to hold his daughter during visitations at the ICE center due to the policies, and it is heartbreaking for the young family.
For nearly 50 years, the United States made a promise to protect Vietnam war refugees, but these promises have been broken with recent changes. Khanhi’s husband would not be in ICE custody if the USA kept their moral obligation. Furthermore, unfair immigration policies have put multiple barriers in the way for Vietnam refugees to obtain U.S. citizenship. This cruel situation has shattered this young family financially and emotionally.

We are asking for your generosity to help Khanhi and her family:

• Cover legal expenses to advocate release
• Help the family cover financial obligations
•Help cover child care expenses while Khanhi works full-time
