Bring Glass Recycling to Fairbanks, Alaska

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Erin. I'm a mother, nurse, midwife, and active-duty military spouse. I moved to Fairbanks in 2015 on my own because I was charmed by the community-minded people and appreciation of nature.

I'm raising money to provide a glass recycling service to my community of Fairbanks, simply because I can’t stand throwing glass into the trash.

I'm asking for $8,085, the total cost of a GL Sand 2.0 single-stage glass processer, plus shipping to Alaska.

Glass waste could easily be repurposed if the community possessed the GL Sand. This machine will turn a wine bottle into fine, safe-to-touch sand in 5 seconds!
The sand can be re-used in many ways throughout the community, including in parks and playgrounds. It is safe to touch!
There are other glass crushers out there, but only this machine turns out to be a versatile product in a single-stage process (with a product that is safe around kids.)

When I receive this machine, I plan to collect glass bottles and jars (ANY jar as large as a two-liter bottle) from local restaurants, shops, and residents supporting my GoFundMe. I will have designated drop-off locations and times. I will arrange to pick up the glass from local businesses and ask that residents bring me the unbroken glass bottles and jars in 5-gallon buckets or milk crates. I and volunteers will collect the glass. The end product will be fine, safe-to-touch sand.
As my goal is to decrease our community's environmental impact, solar power from my residential solar panels will power the G.L. Sand. I will own and maintain the equipment.

I will donate the sand for no profit or free back to the community and neighbors who provide the glass. Diverting glass will also prevent sharp, dangerous shards in the dumpsters.

I have also discussed my plan with a member of the Fairbanks Sustainability Commission and local government representatives who have given me their support.

For a donation of $200 or more, I will host a glass drive for your business/ community and give you back all the sand I produce from your collection.

I appreciate your interest in this community project!
