Bring Gunnar Home: Donate for His Recovery
Donation protected
Hi Everyone! I’m not one to ask for help but in this instance I feel that I have no other choice. As most of you know, my dogs are my babies and mean the absolute world to me. Today I had to take my baby boy Gunnar to the emergency vet due to excessive vomiting. After doing x-rays, it was determined that he had a bowel obstruction and needed immediate surgery due to pieces of a dog toy being stuck in his intestines. He made it through the surgery and is on the road to recovery however unfortunately the surgery was more extensive than we all anticipated. My poor guy had 60% of his bowel obstructed, significant bruising in his intestines, and a perforated bowel which resulted in a bowel resection. He currently has a feeding tube and will be in the emergency vet for a few days. The length of stay is unknown at this moment due to it all depending on his recovery. Although surgery went well, we are not fully out of the woods as sepsis is a possibility with a perforation of the bowel due to the intestines leaking toxins into the abdomen. With all of that being said, we all know how expensive vet bills can be. As I sat there today being told that he needed emergency surgery and what that was going to look like financially, I just broke down. I felt like I was being forced to chose between saying goodbye to my otherwise healthy dog (my child) or risk not being able to pay my bills for the next few months. How does one make that decision so easily and quickly? My dog mom heart knew what the right answer was but the fear in my mind made that decision so much harder. Ultimately I went with what my heart was telling me to do because I was just not ready to say goodbye to my goofy, happy, and otherwise healthy fur baby. We’ve been through way too much together for me to just give up on him that easily. With all of that being said, the extent of the vet bills that are to come are unknown. I want to be able to give him the best possible outcome so that he can return home with his sister and I. If anyone is willing to donate and help me bring my baby boy home, it would mean the absolute world to me. Thank you!
