Bring Healing to Heroes Through Fishing Fun
Tax deductible
Jim O'Brien is my neighbor who does amazing things by taking wounded veterans offshore fishing. For a few hours veterans get to take a mental vacation out on the beautiful water and catch an awesome fish or two or three. The comradery of a bunch of warriors hanging out and sharing lifes stories is a blessing to many. They might never have gotten to go offshore fishing without the genorosity of Jim, his late wife Deb and many contributors. Jim started Fishn for Heroes in 2012. He is very passionate about it. He fundraises all year long, with a chili cookoff coming up in December 2024. I would love to see him with a little more money to help fix up the boat a bit after hurrrican Ian took its toll. The veterans go between 30 and 40 miles out. Fish and have fun. Then Jim and his mate feed them out on the water and upon return clean the catch and take 8-9lbs to a restaurant where they can have their fish prepared how they like it and all sides and beverages are provided by Jim. 6 wounded vets or 3-4 in wheel chairs go at a time. They make new friends, hopefully long term and possibly learn a new skill and definitely will enjoy themselves. A sad fact is that as many as 24 veterans commit suicide every day!! Plus 20 more from overdose. If this could help just one, wouldn't it be worth it?
Funds will be used to help with gas, insurance and bait. Poles and some lunch and beverages.
