From Jamaica to Home: Cierra's Medical Emergency Fund

My sister took a trip to Jamaica and the unthinkable happened. On Monday, she was swimming with the dolphins and as the dolphins lifted her in the air, Cierra slipped and the dolphins dorsal fin hit her crotch area. This created such a blunt force trauma to the area it caused her to have a hematoma the size of three apples. She went into emergency surgery at the Cornwall Hospital in Montego Bay on Monday morning after being transported from Hosptien Hospital. Due to her being American, the first hospital made her pay out of pocket just to be seen. She also had to pay for her ambulance transport, and use of the stretcher when arriving to Cornwall because they had no beds. Cierra has sickle cell disease and has had to have 2 blood transfusions since the incident. The nurses and herself have been doing everything they can to not trigger her Sickle Cell Disease, she has been using her medication from home to manage. Unfortunately she can’t manage it all by herself and she is in need of another transfusion and the hospital said that she can’t because they don’t have compatible blood in their Blood Bank. Her recovery process during Monday and Tuesday was doing what we believed was okay as she was in such high hopes and was not in a dramatic amount of pain compared to the first day it happened. This morning I got a text from her saying that she woke up in pain and the hematoma was swelling again and they will have to take her to the surgical room tomorrow morning again. At this point we just want her home to her babies! We’ve looked into everything to see what’s the best safe option for her. Her insurance does not cover international emergency travel so we will have to come out of pocket for the emergency medical flight to pick her up tomorrow and take her back to the states to a hospital there. Medical Flights have been quoted $45,000. My family is doing what they can to come up with the money but this is not something everybody has laying around. I ask that if anyone can donate any amount that it is more than appreciated right now. My family and I hate to see my sister in this state of condition considering where’s she’s at and the fear she has of not being able to get back home to her babies.
