Bring Holiday Cheer to Hillview Market Staff

As many people locally have learned by now, the Hillview Market and Deli has closed. I realize there is a lot of drama and questions over the issues, and to be honest that is not of my concern. However, I am worried about the employees that were unjustly hurt by this and the situation around the closing. At the end, there were I believe 6 employees still working and like the rest of us, they worked day by day to put food on the table and gas in the car. This time of year, the last thing I would want is for their little ones to go without at Christmas.

Today I bumped into an ex-employee by chance and heard about the bounced payroll checks for over a month now! With the bank fees and the lost income, these employees are all hurting, bank accounts in the negative as the bank continues to take out fees. I learned that even though they will qualify for unemployment help, the banks will be taking all of the money until the accounts are brought back up to $0. That just won’t do!

It is my understanding that in order to bring the accounts of all of the remaining employees at least back to $0 can be done for approximately $8500. I know that this community can top that to be sure that those kids (including 1 unborn kiddo on the way) get something to open under the Christmas tree this year, can’t we?

I have volunteered to open this drive and am communicating directly with the people hurt by this. Whatever happened on the management side of things is beyond my concern as well as those employees. Anything you can offer will be a huge help and 100% of what is brought in (minus the fees from GoFundMe) will go directly to those employees.
