Bring Hope to JR - Make a Life-Saving Impact

Hello, lovely souls,
My name is Edith, and today I come to you not for myself but to share the incredible story of resilience and love surrounding Albert K. Victor Jr. (JR) — my best friend of 44 years and my husband of 37 years. JR is a devoted father of three and a proud recent grandpa to two beautiful grandbabies.
Our lives were forever changed when JR's health took an unexpected turn just before Memorial Day. In a distressing moment, our daughter, Malia, found JR unconscious in his car, prompting an urgent trip to the doctor. It was then that we discovered the devastating news: JR's kidneys are failing rapidly, and he is in dire need of a live kidney transplant. Time is of the essence as his kidney function continues to decline, and the waiting list for a deceased donor transplant can take 3-5 years. Unfortunately, JR may not have that long. He needs a living kidney!
JR's infectious smile captures the hearts of all who meet him. He may appear quiet and contemplative at first, but once he warms up, be prepared for laughter and unforgettable one-liners. His kindness and patience know no bounds, and his willingness to assist others, even with demanding computer issues in his IT work, showcases his selflessness. In his spare time, he finds joy in watching the DUCKs and the Chargers, as well as building computers for those in need.
Family means everything to JR. The Hawaiian term "Ohana" resonates deeply with him, symbolizing the bond and support that his loved ones provide. Despite his challenges, he firmly believes that his purpose on this earth still needs to be fulfilled. Slowing down has been difficult, but he remains steadfast and determined to overcome this obstacle.
The road ahead is long and filled with numerous appointments for viability and compatibility testing with the transplant team. Following the transplant, JR will require regular visits to a hospital an hour away, five hours per day, three days per week, for three months. As his designated care partner, I will be by his side, attending every class and appointment, which means our ability to work will be limited.
We humbly ask for your support in alleviating the financial burden associated with JR's medical journey. The costs encompass doctor and hospital bills, medications, daily expenses, home upgrades like a ramp for our front steps, and transportation to and from the hospital. Additionally, there are expenses related to the donor's compatibility testing, kidney removal surgery, and recovery. Insurance coverage is partial, leaving us with an overwhelming bill.
By sharing JR's story, you not only help him in his quest for a new kidney but also raise awareness about the vital importance of organ donation. Your generosity and compassion have the power to transform lives and create a ripple effect of hope.
Remember, even the smallest contribution can make a significant impact. Just $5.00 could cover the gas expenses for one of JR's appointments in Portland and back. Every dollar counts towards ensuring he can continue being the remarkable husband, father, grandfather, friend, mentor, and human being he is.
If financial support isn't feasible for you at this time, we understand completely. We believe in the power of connections and the potential ripple effect of spreading awareness. Will you please share this to help us reach more people who might be interested or willing to explore the possibility of being a living organ donor? The gift of life is immeasurable, and together, we can make a difference.
The average cost of a kidney transplant and medical care exceeds $710,000, an overwhelming figure we cannot overcome alone. With your love, support, and donations, we can bring hope and healing to JR's life-saving journey. Let's come together and show JR the strength of our community!
From the depths of our hearts, we extend our gratitude for taking the time to read JR's story and for any assistance you can offer. Please share his journey far and wide so that together, we can bring awareness to the urgent need for organ donation. May this never touch your family's future, and may you be blessed abundantly for your kindness and generosity.
With heartfelt appreciation,
Edith (JR's wife) and the entire Victor family
