Bring Houdini the Italian street dog to the UK!
Donation protected
This is ‘Houdini’. An abandoned dog living in deep Southern Italy. He was left in a cage with a wooden pallet for a bed at a second house- the owner would come and give him scraps every few days, when he remembered. This friendly little boy was left by himself, his floor littered with excrement. He kept escaping from his confinement and visiting the neighbours who would feed this mischievous dog; despite him chasing their cats! He has a lovely temperament and the escape artist is a frequent visitor.. Neighbours aptly named him Houdini as he kept appearing through small gaps after being returned to his little pen time and time again.
Residents eventually persuaded the owner to take the cage door off the pen as Houdini kept getting out and they were concerned he would sustain an injury jumping over the crude wire fence. Although he’s still at risk of being hit by a car and poisoned (like other dogs and cats have been in the area) he has freedom from a depressing cage that would send him insane with boredom and isolation.
A lifeline was found through the Essex Animal Rights Activists network and ‘Furry Friends Italy’ offered a space on their transport to the UK next month. Their Puglia volunteer will drive Houdini about an hour to the van driver, who then makes his way to North Italy, then across Spain and France to UK. The driver asks for €400, with €150 going to the volunteer looking after him until his drive to the UK. These are the costs I’m please asking for help towards.
With support from locals Houdini is getting prepped for travel. He needs a rabies shot, first vaccination, worm treatment, microchip and passport along with travel paperwork TRACES completed to make him eligible for European travel. Anything extra will go to Furry Friends Italy for all their continued work, advice and support in getting Houdini (and others!!) to a warm, soft bed sheltered from the elements. Thank you so much!!!
Your new life awaits in Essex sweet boy. Miss you already ♥️♥️
