Ute Releford's Annual Holiday Toy Giveaway: Spreading Joy & Resilience in the Heart of San Francisco

The holiday season is upon us, and Ute Releford (aka Mrs. Claus) is back to bring smiles and joy to the children and families of San Francisco’s Fillmore/Western Addition. For over 15 years, Ute, lovingly known as “Mother Fillmore” or “Mama Tay,” has devoted herself to uplifting her community through the UR Blessings initiative.

What began as a personal mission to support her neighbors has grown into a beloved annual tradition, where families in need can count on holiday cheer. Last year, UR Blessings distributed over 1,000 toys, bikes, and gifts, along with grocery bags and turkeys, ensuring that children and seniors alike felt the magic of the season.

As the world faces uncertain times and political divides, our resolve to support each other grows even stronger. We’ve faced so many challenges, but we’ve also seen how powerful our community resilience is. Ute's annual toy giveaway is not just about providing material gifts—it's about spreading hope, unity, and love, especially in the historically Black Fillmore neighborhood, where many families have been displaced due to gentrification.
