Help Bring Marie Back Home to Recover with Family and Friends
Funding medical bills, travel expenses, and ongoing care.
A resident of the Big Island of Hawaii, Maria was unexpectedly taken away from work, family, and friends in June by Air Medivac to a critical emergency life support hospital in Honolulu, Oahu.
Maria's blood pressure was an alarming 250 with an Intracranial Hemorrhage/Stroke. A neurosurgeon inserted a bleed drain tube and placed her on full life support. Family and friends were and still are emotionally devastated.
Slowly, week by week with partial life support, Maria became more aware, with limited vision and movement. The left side of her body is paralyzed.
After two months, the hospital discharged her to a Rehab Nursing facility in Honolulu, which is considered off-island from her home on the Big Island. As such, her family has difficulty being with her and monitoring her treatments and recovery.
Three months have passed, and Maria is not giving up. She is partially talking and being fed by her Speech Therapist. Physical Therapy should be ongoing, as she is still bedridden and needs movement. Her memory is intact, which is a blessing.
Maria is very homesick and deserves to come home where she can heal better with family, friends, and personal therapists. Her daughter Brittany and family are arranging for full-time family home care on the Big Island of Hawaii. Although a short-term rehab nursing facility on the Big Island might be necessary before full-time home care is ready. Medical Air transportation back home to the Big Island will be necessary and costly. Medical bills and air travel expenses have exceeded $10,000 and are unaffordable as the family is on a fixed income.
GoFundMe seemed the most practical way to reach out for help to bring Maria home to family and friends for quality recovery. Your generosity and concerned compassion are our heartfelt appreciation.
