Bring online peer support to the world
Tax deductible
Hi, my name is Cody, and I’m fundraising for a nonprofit called Humane Kinect.
PERSONAL STORY
I formed Humane Kinect in 2022 with some friends and mentors to provide the world with a better option for social media centered on free, multi-category peer support.
Why shouldn't peer support services be free and open to anyone in need?
We deserve to have at least one emotional support option that promotes compassion and prohibits judgement.
The need Humane Kinect serves is something that speaks to me personally.
I lost my Mom and Dad in 2009 when my Dad took my Mom's life and ended his own.
He buckled to the mounting stress in his life when he could no longer handle the negative thoughts that crippled him.
In 2018, I had my own experience for the first time with severe depression and was struggling with suicide ideation.
This helped me relate to my Dad in ways I never knew before. I had no idea the human mind could go to such dark places.
I experienced progressive, detrimental effects from feeling lonely and depressed for several years. The problem wasn’t a lack of acquaintances; I had plenty of those. The problem was fear of judgment and a lack of meaningful connections in my life that prevented me from sharing issues close to my heart.
When I lacked meaningful connections, I felt I had no one to turn to, and my depression steadily grew. Past friendships had faded away, I was skeptical about the effectiveness of therapy, and obtaining new, meaningful friendships was difficult.
My life changed for the best when I discovered some healthy outlets where I could share personal matters.
I realized the positive effect of having meaningful connections in relation to my mental wellness and personal development.
I needed a space to express my thoughts without worrying about being judged. I needed to connect with others who could relate to me about sensitive matters close to my heart.
Talking to others won't solve everything, but it can help you feel less alone, and that has helped me immensely. I know it would have benefited my Dad too.
I know I'm not the only one who has suffered from loneliness and depression. In a 2021 survey by Cigna of 2,496 US adults, 57 percent of men and 59 percent of women reported feeling lonely.
As a peer support community, Humane Kinect encourages members to share challenges they’re dealing with or have overcome.
The community consists of an online forum and video chat peer support groups.
Forum and video chat group categories evolve to the public’s needs and span across a broad array of real-life issues. Examples include relationships, depression, addiction, physical health, finances, childhood trauma, and parenting.
