Help Bring This Cancer Comedy to Life
Donation protected
Have you or someone you love been affected by cancer, or other serious illness?
Have you or someone you love been failed by the American healthcare system due to discriminatory bias, language barrier, or unfounded assumptions made by a healthcare worker or insurance provider?
Have you or someone you love felt ignored, dismissed, or doubted when seeking medical treatment, left with more questions than answers?
Us too. And we're sick of it.
THE PROJECT:
Written by mother/daughter team, Amanda and Terry Miller, Quacks & Whacks: A Cancer Comedy uses absurdist humor, clowning, puppetry, music, and animation to spotlight the very real struggles and triumphs of navigating the three-ring circus of living with advanced stage cancer in America. We join Sharon, a 45-year-old teacher (and the colorful cast of cancer cells singing, dancing & hiking through her body) as she dodges gravel cravings and horny doctors in pursuit of effective screening, humane healthcare, and, really, any kind of answers at all.
Thus-far, Terry (mother of this play, living with cancer to this day) and Amanda (co-writer, performer, devoted daughter) have funded the production out of their own pockets. However, we need your help to bring this play to life.
Furthermore, in the spirit of showing up for one another where The System continues to fall short, we are committed to sharing 50% of funds raised with the Red Door Community (formerly Gilda's Club) which provides FREE cancer support, emotional and educational programs, and healthy lifestyle workshops online and in-person.
We aim to raise $12,000* by opening night, April 4th, 2025.
- $6,000 to complete production costs.
- $6,000 to support Red Door in its mission to ensure that no one faces cancer alone.
*Any additional funds raised will be split the same way, with our half prioritizing reimbursing the artists.
Aside from being a riotous hour of buffoonery (if we don’t laugh, we cry, and possibly die), Quacks & Whacks aims to create a space where we can commiserate in community. Together, we can identify the sorest spots, and unite in pushing for change so the American healthcare system can better serve its patients. We humbly invite you to join our quest by donating if you can, and sharing this page far and wide.
They say laughter is the best medicine. With your help, this spring, the doctor is in.
